Service Description

OFFSITE WORKSHOP (if you are unable to drive to the location we are offering bisque drop offs-see bottom for description) **All work must be below 16" inches width and height. Join us in one of the most ancient forms of ceramics. Using natural and found materials we will place works into the soil for firing. The technique is a marriage between the artist and chance, experimentation and observation, where discovery becomes as significant as invention, and failures should be seen as part of the process of learning. All works being used in the pit firing must be bisque fired prior to the firing. Each piece that is unearthed from the ashes is uniquely inspired and intrigued by the fact that the beauty of nature itself seems have been encapsulated into the work when the elements interact. The studio will be providing found materials such as saw dust, seaweed, soil, copper carbonate, and more as options to create textures. Note: This a two part event-with one half going over the process of a pit firing and the second half that will be taking place offsite. It is a 1.5 hour commute from the studio. Carpooling is highly recommended. Location will be provided at the informational meeting. All work must be bisque fired prior to the pit firing. 1 Day Attendance: option 1: Thursday January 15th Wrap work in material and learn about the process of pit firings-you can still fire your work but if you are unable to make the commute to fire please choose this option. Sunday January 18th 2 Day Attendance For those who wish to build and participate onsite for the pit firing. Fire & Unearth work Location to be disclosed once signed up- we will be firing within a 1.5 hour commute from downtown Los Angeles. If high winds are reported on the day of the firing we will have to reschedule as the weather and wind report will determine the time of day we can fire.
