Using natural and found materials, ceramic works will be placed into the earth and covered with wood to contain the fire. This process represents a collaboration between the artist and chance; a balance of experimentation and observation; where discovery becomes as meaningful as invention.
After 7 hours all works will be unearthed from the ashes.
In the spirit of the holiday season, we are hosting a series of themed gift-making classes starting this Friday.

There is something profoundly special about a handmade, personal gift so we are opening up space to create thoughtful, custom pieces for grandparents, friends, and lovers.

This 4-week hands-on workshop introduces the traditional and contemporary process of making Suul jan — small ceramic cups used for Korean alcoholic beverages such as Makgeolli, Cheongju, and Soju. Participants will explore both the functional and cultural dimensions of Suul jan through wheel throwing, trimming, glazing, and a final group exhibition.
In this six week course guests will have the opportunity to learn how to build a series of larger structures. Participants will be able to concept, draft, and construct their ideas for ceramic furniture. Tables, stools, lamps, and more* are all examples of furniture types that are well suited to ceramic practices.
In this one time class students will have the opportunity to coil build a vessel, which can be used as a vase or to hold other objects or forms. This particular technique has been used for thousands of years throughout history. This class is great for those who are eventually looking to build larger more abstract forms. All clay, glaze materials, and tools are included. No experience is required for this class.
A wheel throwing session is centered on trial and error, experimentation and chance. Previous ceramic experience is a must! Similar to practicing a song on an instrument over and over again, this session is meant for wheel-throwing practice; learning from past failures, and learning to grow amongst your peers and teachers.
