Service Description

The primary focus of this course is on learning the programs used to create 3D models using the CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software Rhino. Skills taught in this course can be applied to various mediums including but not limited to ceramics, wood, pearl, metal, and more. About the Instructor: Paulette S. Hartman is a craft artist residing in Los Angeles whose work explores material exploration, oceanic scenery, and beachcombing. She has also studio assisted for Mallory Weston’s Vibrant Color and Titanium Anodizing Workshop at Penland School of Craft in North Carolina. Hartman is currently the assistant to Production Designer Emma Rose Mead and is co-curating the upcoming exhibition Afters In LA at the Birdhouse Gallery in Los Angeles. 5-Week Course     •    Week 1: Thursday May 15th Foundations in Rhino: Introduction to Rhino, including fundamental drawing techniques, image sourcing, and basic extrusion methods.     •    Week 2: Thursday May 22nd Scaling and Drafting: Students bring in sketch images, and instruction is provided on drafting to scale within Rhino.     •    Week 3: Thursday May 29th Industry Insights & Inspiration: Guest speaker from the Octavia Butler Lab presents, offering insight and relevant sample projects for inspiration.     •    Week 4: Thursday June 5th Ceramic Design & Prototyping: Exploration of designing tools for ceramics, drafting techniques, rendering, and developing one-week project concepts.     •    Week 5: Thursday June 12th Final Review & Discussion: Students present their work, receive constructive critique. Possible Collaboration with the Octavia Butler Lab (https://www.lapl.org/labs/octavia-lab) Students are encouraged to bring the following: - Laptop - digital caliper - Scale Ruler-more affordable - Sketchbook - Mouse required

Cancellation Policy

Due to coordinating with teachers and material costs, cancellations made within one week of the start of class will receive a 50% refund. Cancellations in under 5 days are ineligible for a refund. There are no refunds once the class has begun.
