Service Description

Clay CA is thrilled to host a series of workshops and events centered around biomaterials in sculpture, fashion, and design. Organized with our former lab tech, Sasha Fishman, in conjunction for her first solo show in LA at Murmurs, these workshops open up dialogues between biomaterial processes and ceramic techniques. Part 1: November 9th : Participants will learn how to make their own yarn from scratch [Led by Alicia Valdés] Part 2: November 10th : Participants will turn freshly made materials into a knitted product [Led by Stella Harry Lee] As biomaterials gain traction in the material innovation space, much of the conversation remains siloed within specialized communities. Our aim is to bring these discussions beyond the labs and research centers and to engage a broader audience, highlighting the intersection of biomaterials within both art and fashion. Alicia Valdés is currently based in Mexico City, she is a multidisciplinary designer working at the intersection of biodesign and circular materials, fashion, and art. Stella Harry Lee is a Korean American independent material and product designer with experiences working with Paloma Wool and Nike. Sasha Fishman’s show at Murmurs opens November 9, 6-9 pm proceeding Alicia’s workshop. Stay tuned for the panel event following Stella’s workshop on November 10 at Murmurs Gallery 5pm where Sasha, Stella, and Alicia will discuss their biomaterial practices and processes.
